Rode NTG1 Shotgun Microphone

Switching from a heavier boom mic to this was a game-changer for my run-and-gun doc work. The low self-noise is incredible—I barely have to clean up the audio in post.

I’ve been using it on outdoor shoots for two weeks now, and the lightweight body makes boom-pole work feel effortless compared to my old mic. The full frequency response picks up dialogue crisply even in slightly windy conditions, which was my biggest worry before buying.

The low noise floor is a huge plus—I can capture dialogue cleanly even in quiet indoor scenes. It picks up sound from exactly where I aim it without much bleed from the sides.
